The Dolobran Mining Company papers, 1880-1913.

The collection consists of deeds of title and lease, charter (April 11, 1881), survey of claim (Aug. 11, 1882), mineral and other patents, letters, and legal document signed by the Secretary of the Commonwealth of PA (Oct. 21, 1881) authorizing the "foreign" company, The Dolobran Mining Co. to do business in Pennsylvania as well as transfers or sale of shares in the company and in the proposed The Haverford Mining Company. The earliest deed of lease and title is to David Scull of Philadelphia and Samuel Alsop, Jr. of Colorado for the Pioneer, Revenue and Union mines in Ouray Co., Colorado (Sept. 15, 1880). In April, 1881, Samuel Alsop, Jr. and Walter Gaskill formed and incorporated The Dolobran Mining Co. to acquire precious metal mines to then develop, work, or improve them, including erecting buildings or mills and for which they would sell stock. Some document signers include: Samuel Alsop, William Alderson, Francis T. King, David Scull Jr., James Carey Thomas and Samuel R. Shipley.

Biographical Note: Francis T. King was a Quaker merchant who was appointed in 1867 to the first Board of Trustees, The Johns Hopkins University. He was born in Baltimore, MD, Feb. 25, 1819, the son of Joseph and Tacy Ellicott King. He graduated in the first class of Haverford College in 1835 and entered business in Baltimore.
